_____   Submerge entire head for 5 seconds. 

 

_____   Blow bubbles, submerging head in a rhythmic pattern (bobbing)  at least 5 times. 

 

_____   Open eyes underwater, picking up submerged objects in shallow  water three times without pausing between. 

 

_____   Show comfort maintaining an unassisted front float position  with face in the water for at least 5 seconds. 

 

_____   Recover from an unassisted front float to a standing position. 

 

_____   Demonstrate a front glide for at least 2 body lengths. 

 

_____   Show comfort maintaining an unassisted back float position  for at least 5 seconds. 

 

_____   Recover from an unassisted back float to a standing position. 

 

_____   Demonstrate a back glide for at least 2 body lengths. 

  

_____   Change direction of travel while paddling. 

 

_____   Roll from front to back. 

 

_____   Roll from back to front. 

 

_____   Demonstrate arm and leg movements for treading water in chest-deep  water for at least 10 seconds. 

 

_____   Swim unassisted on front using any combination of arm and  leg actions for at least 15 feet. 

   

_____   Swim unassisted on back using any combination of arm and  leg actions for at least 15 feet. 

 

_____   Discuss Reach, Throw, or Don’t Go 

 

_____   Discuss water safety rules and how to call for help. 

 

Exit Skills Assessment (if applicable) 

 

_____   Step from pool side into chest-deep water, move into a front  float for 5 seconds, roll over to a back float, return to a standing  position, then move into a back float for 5 seconds before  returning to a standing position. 

 

_____   Push off and swim using a combination of arm and leg  movements for 15 feet on the front, push off and swim using  a combination of arm and leg movements for 15 feet on back.
